Goodbye Digest, hello Lagom

Earlier this week, I announced the amicable closure of Viewport Industries, the company I’ve run with Keir Whitaker since 2011. The demise of the company means the demise of our one remaining product: the lifestyle magazine Digest.

Or does it?

Well, yes and no. You see, although Digest is indeed going away after just one issue, we — that is, my wife Samantha and I — are about to publish the first issue of a new magazine called Lagom. The two magazines share origins, and you’ll certainly recognise similar type and grid systems in both, but rather than take sole ownership of Digest and publish #2, we decided to rethink our goals entirely; to burn one publication so that another could rise from its ashes.

The result is a magazine with a different — and much tighter — editorial focus, many more pages (128, in fact), and a totally different format: A4 (210 × 297mm / 8.27 × 11.69in) in size, perfect-bound, and with a foil-blocked cover. Just like 8 Faces, our aim has been to create a magazine you’ll want to keep on your bookshelf.

Lagom #1 tease

I’ve got many more details to share with you shortly — including some photos of the digitally-printed proof copy we’ve just had back from the printers — but for now, head over to our blog, where we’ve been posting a whole load of teasers for the magazine’s content. Oh, and we’d certainly appreciate any likes, follows, etc. you fancy sending our way on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Lagom #1 will be published on Wednesday 24th September. I can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on!
